On Friday a minivan carrying five children was sideswiped by an oncoming car, causing the van to run into a pole and resulting in serious injuries for one of the young passengers.

According to police, a woman headed westbound on Highway 530 lost control of her vehicle and crossed into the oncoming lane. The swerving car narrowly missed hitting a truck and another car before hitting the van. As a result of this impact, the van went crashing into a power pole.

The 8-year old boy injured in the crash suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

We value children. We purchase insurance just in case we have an accident. Sometimes people are reluctant to make claims against friends or family members. But not making a claim only benefits the insurance company (that has been collecting premiums for years or even decades). When someone is injured--especially a child--a claim should be made against the at-fault driver's insurance company.
