A 16 year old Tacoma girl died last week after a vehicle she was a passenger in left the road, hit a tree and rolled over.

Troopers say the 17-year-old Tacoma girl who was driving a 2006 Honda Civic on State Route 7 yesterday evening lost control of her vehicle and it left the roadway, hitting a tree and rolling.

The passenger ... 16-year-old Ashley Magnusson of Tacoma ... died today at Tacoma General Hospital of injuries received in the crash.

Troopers say the car was traveling at a high rate of speed. They say investigators will be recommending a charge of vehicular homicide.

The driver received minor injuries in the crash.

It is a tragedy when a young person like the passenger in this accident passes far before her time. No amount of money will ever bring a victim back. However, the law affords families of persons killed by the negligence of another remedies for a reason: the family should be compensated, in some way, for their loss by the acts of another. And people should be deterred from acting negligently in the future.
