Menu Foods--with plants in the United States and Canada--has announced an extremely broad recall of cat and dog food (specifically, the "cuts and gravy" variety which dcomes in cans and small foil pouches).

The recall covers over 60 million containers of wet pet food. The recall was announced after reports of kidney failure and at least 10 deaths.

The pet food was sold by stores operated by the Kroger Company, Safeway Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and PetSmart Inc. More information can be obtained at the Menu Foods Pet Food Recall site. Menu Foods manufacturers for 85 percent of the leading North American retailers including Iams.

Make that eleven deaths. One of my cats died, and the other is fighting for her life as I write this. My vet estimates my bill will be $800. It won't bring my cat back to life, though, and may not save the other one. If you're filing a class action suit, please contact me. I may want in.

Hello, I am writing with questions regarding the pet food recall. I lost my 2.5 yr old female shetland sheepdog the last week in October. She became ill and vomited a lot, refused to eat, lethargic I took her to the vet
they admitted her and ruled out any bacteria infections. Her blood wasnt right though. They said it was bad and they had no idea why. They started antibiotics in case it would help. But in 2 days she died. They still cant tell me what killed her . Domething caused her organs to shut down. I just heard about this petfood thing and she ate natural choice by nutro. I am very upset to think it may have been the food. I will call my vet tomorrow and ask him to look at her blood work and see if the results are consistent with the results of the other sick dogs. What do you think. Were dogs getting sicj in the end of October and November? If he says it was the dogfood is there going to be a class action suit. My dog was a pure bread 2.5 year old female. She was still a puppy.

My sister's cat developed sudden unexplained, at least at the time, renal failure several weeks ago. She's spent hundreds at the vet, on tests, medicine, special foods, etc.

The cat has recovered somewhat, but the vet says much of the damage is permanent, so she'll likely need close monitoring and special food for the remainder of her shortened life. Her cat ate only the "wet" food in the little foil packets that menu foods distributed under walmart's brand label. I too hope someone goes after them legally.

Our Collie suffered the very symptoms listed in the Menu recall after eating Companion brand, canned foods at the end of December. The vet could not figure out what was wrong and we tried a myriad of remedies to bring her right. She has survived, but is still in the throes of kidney failure. The only thing she can eat is boiled chicken or she throws up and has diareah. She has lost 20% of her body weight and still may not survive. Please contact me if you begin a class action. I believe Menu knew of the problem. Isn't it odd that they have immediately pinpointed the glutin. Sounds like they knew it was poisoned and use it anyway. Thanks A Stewart

Thank you all for posting. We are filing a nation-wide class action suit today against Menu Foods. We are also naming the 40 cat food companies and 50 dog food companies that sold the tainted products. We really appreciate your support and are incredibly sorry that your pets got sick.

Please let us know if you would like to be included as one of the named plaintiffs. If you do we will need information including your pet's name, breed, symptoms, treatment and evidence re: purchase and consumption of the tainted food.
